Page numbering is performed entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. The tool loads your PDF locally, draws page number text onto each page at the chosen position, and saves the file back to your device. No PDF data is transmitted over the internet.

Page numbers are rendered in standard Helvetica at 10pt in a dark grey colour to blend subtly with most document styles.
The current tool numbers all pages. To number a subset, extract those pages first, number them, then merge them back.
Currently only Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3…) are supported. Roman numeral support is planned.
Numbers are placed in the margin area (25pt from the edge) to avoid overlapping standard content. Very narrow-margin documents may see overlap.
The current tool inserts the page number alone. Page X of Y format is on our feature roadmap.
